These California Agencies provide services and support to people with hearing loss.

California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR)

The California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) works in partnership with consumers and other stakeholders to provide services and advocacy resulting in employment, independent living, and equality for individuals with disabilities.

DOR administers the largest vocational rehabilitation and independent living programs in the country. Vocational rehabilitation services are designed to help job seekers with disabilities obtain competitive employment in integrated work settings. Independent living services may include peer support, skill development, systems advocacy, referrals, assistive technology services, transition services, housing assistance, and personal assistance services.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services

Employment and independent living resources for Californians with disabilities. The DOR also purchases hearing aids for clients if needed for the successful completion of their Individual Plans for Employment.

Deaf Access Program (DAP)

The Deaf Access Program (DAP) is part of the Department of Social Services and works to ensure that California’s public programs are adapted to meet the communication needs of deaf and hard of hearing children, adults, and families so they may receive the public benefits and services to which they are entitled and achieve economic independence to fully participate in mainstream society. Services include: Communications Services, Advocacy Services, Job Development and Placement, Counseling, and Community Education.

California Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advisory Committee (DHHAC)

The committee develops, in conjunction with stakeholders, an annual work plan to identify and address areas for improvement in services provided by the Department of Rehabilitation to persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, and deaf/blind

Deaf/Disabled Telecommunications Program (DDTP)

Provides free telephone communications access for all deaf and disabled Californians.

MEDI-CAL
