Locked hearing aids are not consumer-friendly. They require the consumer to only use the purchase place for adjustments and repairs, taking away the consumer’s ability to choose a provider for follow-up. Many times this is not explained at the time of purchase.

This proposed legislation will require hearing aid dispensers and dispensing audiologists to provide the purchaser with a written notice if the hearing aid being purchased uses proprietary or locked programming software.
