DESCRIPTION:This webinar will focus on self-employment and entrepreneurship as options for people who are deaf and hard-of-hearing. Our three panelists\, who all have hearing loss and have successfully navigated self-employment\, will share helpful tips\, personal stories and the pros and cons of being self-employed. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Kelly Tremblay and Lisa Yuan. Presented by the HLAA Accessible\, Inclusive Employment Task Force\, this free webinar will be captioned and recorded. \nPresenters \nEyra Abraham is the founder of Lisnen\, a startup that is changing the landscape of adaptive technologies for people with hearing loss using the latest AI technologies. She’s also a workshop trainer for non-profit and for-profit organizations on topics such as disability inclusion and entrepreneurship. Building on her own hearing loss and technical experiences\, her mission is to advance the positive impact of technologies to help people with disabilities gain equal access at home\, at work and in the community. She was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Black Women to Watch 2019. \n  \nAnne McIntosh\, Ph.D.\, is the president\, CEO and founder of Safe’N’Clear. After noticing a barrier with traditional PPE\, specifically face masks\, she created a solution to help millions of people access inclusive communication. Her modernized design includes a clear window that shows the user’s mouth\, allowing the deaf and hard of hearing an opportunity to speech-read and see facial expressions. Safe’N’Clear has also introduced the world’s first FDA-approved transparent surgical face mask with Level 1 and Level 3 protection. \n  \nShari Eberts is a passionate hearing health advocate\, HLAA Board Member and internationally recognized author and speaker on hearing loss issues. She is the founder of Living with Hearing Loss blog and online community\, and an executive producer of We Hear You\, an award-winning documentary about the hearing loss experience. Her book\, Hear & Beyond: Live Skillfully with Hearing Loss (co-authored with Gael Hannan)\, is the ultimate survival guide to living well with hearing loss. Shari has an adult-onset genetic hearing loss and hopes that by sharing her story\, she will help others to live more peacefully with their own hearing issues. \n  \nRegister Here

They require the consumer to only use the purchase place for adjustments and repairs\, taking away the consumer’s ability to choose a provider for follow-up. Many times this is not explained at the time of purchase. \n \nJoin us for a discussion about AB435 (Mullins): Hearing Aid: Locked Programming Software. Learn how we\, as the hearing loss community\, can help get this legislation passed in California. This proposed legislation will require hearing aid dispensers and dispensing audiologists to provide the purchaser with a written notice if the hearing aid being purchased uses proprietary or locked programming software.

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 14\, 2020\nMeets 2nd Saturday\n \n1 pm\, PT \nSurviving the Holidays with Hearing Loss \nAlison Freeman\, Ph.D. \nAlison Freeman\, Ph.D.\, is a clinical psychologist who works half time at California State University at Northridge (CSUN) with both hearing and hard of hearing/deaf/Deaf students. She also has a private practice and is doing teletherapy doing the pandemic. She has had a severe hearing loss since early childhood\, was orally trained\, and is a long-time member of HLAA (she knew Rocky!). She has developed mental health service and training programs in several counties throughout California and did her post-doctorate fellowship at UCSF Center on Deafness. She recently spoke at the Los Angeles County Psychological Association training therapists on how to work with Older Americans with Hearing Loss as well as speaking to various classes and National Center on Deafness at CSUN.   She is passionate about her work as a psychologist and is honored to be a role model for others\, as she wished she had had as a child.  \nHear with Your Eyes Therapy\nhttp://www.dralisonfreeman.net
